Subject Overview: | Spanish-language fiction (literature and film) after World War II has achieved unprecedented worldwide recognition for both its combination of „high‟ and „popular‟ art forms and its ability to speak to global audiences from an utterly recognisable local perspective. In this course we will seek to understand some of the major names and trends in contemporary fiction from the Hispanic world (including masters such as Borges, Garcia Marquez and Vargas Llosa, as well as acclaimed filmmakers such as Pedro Almodovar and Guillermo del Toro) in their respective national and cultural contexts. |
