Prerequisites: Spanish Intermediate Language Culture A. This subject is available at level two for the beginners stream of Spanish.

Non Allowed Subjects: Previously available as 116-222 Intermediate Spanish B. Students who have completed 116-222 or Spanish Intermediate Language/Culture B at Level 1 are not eligible to enrol in this subject.

Subject Overview:

This subject emphasises performance in the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, but on a more advanced level than Intermediate Spanish A, which it builds on. It contains elements related to practical language acquisition and the study of Spanish and Latin American culture through film and text.

Objectives:
  • be able to understand, speak and write Spanish at a more advanced level.
  • have broadened their knowledge of key grammatical structures in Spanish.
  • be familiar with basic regional variants and informal registers of Spanish. and
  • be able to read and analyse a literary text in Spanish.
Assessment:

Continuous aural, oral and written assessment 50% (2,000 words). final written examination of 2,000 words 50 % (2 hours).

This subject has the following hurdle requirements:

  • Regular participation in tutorials is required with a minimum of 75% attendance.
  • All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.
Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day and in-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked.
