Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Four hours of practical language classes per week
Total Time Commitment: 4 contact hours/week, 4 additional hours/week. Total of 8 hours per week.
Prerequisites: Spanish Beginners Language and Culture A and B. This subject is for students undertaking second year in the beginners stream of Spanish.

Non Allowed Subjects: Previously available as 116-220 Intermediate Spanish A. Students who have completed 116-220 or Spanish Intermediate Language/Culture A at Level 1 are not eligible to enrol in this subject.

Subject Overview:

This subject emphasises Spanish speaking and listening skills, while also attending to the development of reading and writing skills. The student will be involved in a wide range of language acquisition activities and will be exposed to the Spanish language and Hispanic culture through written language, radio, music and film.
Objectives:
  • have developed good aural comprehension skills (of different Spanish and Latin American accents).
  • have continued to improve their skills in spoken, reading and written Spanish.
  • have improved their understanding of aspects of Hispanic Culture and Society.
Assessment:

Continuous aural, oral and written assessment 50% (2,000 words). final written examination of 2,000 words 50 % (2 hours).

This subject has the following hurdle requirements:

  • Regular participation in tutorials is required with a minimum of 75% attendance.
  • All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.
Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day and in-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked.
