Time Commitment: | Contact Hours: 36 hours: attendance at a half-day research training skills workshop (week 1 of semester), approximately fortnightly supervisor meetings, attendance at 2 full-day sessions for student oral presentations (week 11: of each semester). Students must have completed POPH90068 and either POPH90069 or POPH90070. In addition, students enrolling in a social sciences Research Project in Sexual Health must have completed POPH90200 (may be taken concurrently). Alternatively, students enrolling in an epidemiology Research Project in Sexual Health must have completed POPH90146, POPH90147 Epidemiology in Practice (may be taken concurrently) Plus other MPH subjects that are relevant to the proposed research topic. Students will develop a research question in the discipline of sexual health and attempt to answer the question either by a systematic review of the published and unpublished literature or by the analysis of an existing data set, or by the development of a research protocol. |

Assessment: |
A 15 minute work in progress oral presentation due during the 11th week of the first semester of enrolment (10%) a 30 minute final oral presentation due during the 11th week of the second semester of enrolment (20%); a written submission, suitable for publication of between 5,000 and 8,000 words due during the examination period of the second semester of enrolment (70%). Students must pass the written research report assessment (hurdle). |
