Subject Overview:	This subject takes as a starting point a consideration of what constitutes sexual and reproductive health over the life course. It provides an overview of key sexual and reproductive health issues in a variety of geographic locations and considers the factors that enable or inhibit women and men’s reproductive and sexual health. The student will gain an understanding of the wider issues of sexual and reproductive health in our society and will understand the sexual and reproductive health needs of specific groups within the community (eg sexual health of adolescents). The subject will be offered via a standard classroom lecture format and will also be offered by distance education for those students unable to attend classes.
Objectives:	On completion of the subject students will be able to demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the sexual and reproductive health issues in Australia and internationally skills to independently reflect upon and analyse the barriers to optimum sexual and reproductive health an understanding of gender and its influence on sexual and reproductive health
Assessment:	Completion of 8 short answer questions (600 words each) all of equal weighting 2 at end of first month 2 more by mid semester break and 4 a week after semester ends Total words = 4800 All of equal weighting ie 12.5% each
Prescribed Texts:	Selected readings will be made available to students. Special Computer Requirements: Students are required to have access to a computer with e-mail application, Web browser and CD ROM facility. Technical support is not available from the University of Melbourne in setting up such a system.
