The GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN INTEGRATED FREIGHT SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT is an advanced degree that focuses on understanding the dynamics and structure of chain and supply chain systems. Particularly, it focuses on the role of third party service providers traditional transport and logistics operators such as trucking firms, railroads, shipping lines, airlines and ports for example and on the ways and means by which these firms achieve efficiency and business success in their supply chains and in their markets.

There is a desperate need in the freight industry for a change in the mindset that sees only efficiency in handling and storage and freight movement activities as the essential goal of management. This mindset perpetuates segmented, atomistic chains and freight systems. But all freight moves in corporately structured chains and supply chains from seller to buyer and final customer; and it is the chain, not the individual firm in the chain, that delivers value to the buyer. The critical and pressing task for those involved in managing the movement of freight is to ensure the integration of chain functions and operations to the extent possible on a sustainable basis. This view informs this program.

Objectives:

Its objectives are to understand:

  • The bases of chain and supply chain integration and disintegration'
  • Ways and means of integrating the activities of different firms to ensure value delivery to buyers, sellers and to third party service providers
  • The critical factors that can deliver business success in equitable environments on a sustainable basis.
