Subject Overview:

Please note: this subject is currently closed and MCCP is not accepting enrolments. The last intake into this subject was Sem 2, 2010.

The subject provides a ‘body of knowledge’ about, and insights into, the dynamics and structure of the coal mining and export industries. This includes:
• Effective integration of operation and supply chains
• Efficiency in integration of players in the system
• The economics of integrated systems
• Principles involved with the modeling of bulk freight networks
• Policy processes and their impact on the integration of systems
• Operational effectiveness in bulk production and export systems
• Queuing analysis
• Understanding the principles of managing integrated bulk freight systems

Objectives: Subject objectives:
The subject objectives are to provide students with:
• Skills and techniques for identifying and measuring delays and costs in inefficient systems,
• Advanced knowledge of ways and means of integrating production and supply chain operations,
• Ability to determine capacity requirements,
• An understanding of the principles involved in modeling the impacts of bottlenecks in bulk systems, and
• The ability to operate within a complex policy environment.
Assessment:

Assessment, for each of the three subjects in the Certificate, is by way of a seminar presentation (10 percent), a group syndicate project and presentation (40 percent) and a Research Report (50 percent).
