In this subject students will learn to discuss, read and write with confidence about any topic, including those at a more abstract level. Students will also be presented with an overview of major current events and political and social developments in Indonesia. Students should acquire some familiarity with modern Indonesian literature through the reading of poetry and short stories.

A 2-hour examination 40% (due during the examination period), a 10-minute oral examination 10% (due during the examination period), a 1.5 hour test (due mid-semester) 20%, a 1000-word summary (due late semester) 20% and continuous class participation 10%.

Class attendance is required for this subject; if you do not attend a minimum of 80% of classes without an approved exemption you will not be eligible for a pass in this subject. Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day. In-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked. All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.
