Subject Overview:

This subject continues, through class work and tutorials, to build on the concepts learned in Screenwriting 1. Different elements of screenwriting principles such as character, dialogue, point of view and internal logic are discussed. Each student will also write an innovative script for a 4-8 minute exercise to be produced as part of Assigned Projects 2.
Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate development of their creativity and technical skills through screenwriting;
  • exhibit a developed ability for intellectual curiosity and creativity through screenwriting;
  • utilise basic prinicples of dramatic structure to develop theme, story, plot, conflict, character design, etc in their screenplay;
  • develop original story ideas with a unique and creative treatment.
Assessment:

Assessment is continuous and based on the following: Final draft script for a production 4-8 minutes due mid semeter one (50%); class exercises (total 1000 words minimum) (30%); class and script tutorial participation* (20%). *Participation assessed on criteria of engagement, ability to discuss and give/receuve feedback and teamwork skills). For this subject there is an 80% attendance hurdle for workshops, classes, lectures and tutorials.
