Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Four hours of language classes per week
Total Time Commitment: 4 contact hours/week , 4.5 additional hours/week. Total of 8 hours per week.

Subject Overview:

In this subject students will consolidate the skills developed in Indonesian Level 4A. Students should be able to read Indonesian texts of different styles and registers, and to write a fairly nuanced essay in formal Indonesian, demonstrating sensitivity to the complexity of Indonesian social life and language.

Objectives:
  • be able to hold sophisticated discussions in Indonesian on a wide range of personal topics and current and historical and issues.
  • further develop their ability express their ideas orally using sophisticated language.
  • be able to conduct research and produce essays in standard written Indonesian.
  • be familiar with a variety of Indonesian texts of different styles and registers.
  • be able to analyse and comment upon the distinctions between different kinds of cultural discourse.
  • be able to deploy high-level formal written communicative skills in an analytical context.
  • demonstrate sensitivity to a complex social and communicative environment.
Assessment: Class participation 10% (ongoing), written work totalling 1500 words 40% (ongoing), 10 minute in-class oral presentation 10% (mid-semester) and 2-hour written final examination 40% (examination period). Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examination.
