Subject Overview: This subject examines the ways in which language is changing with the development of information and communication technologies. Topics include reading print and screen text, verbal text and images, screen design, Internet genres, email conventions, and reading and writing hypertext.
Objectives: On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
  • be aware of the different reading practices required for reading text on screen in print;
  • analyse the relationship between text and visual presentation; and
  • understand the conventions for writing in electronic media.
Assessment: Assignments totalling 5,000 words (100 per cent).
