Subject Overview:

This subject is focused on extending the work you did in HPE 1 associated with childcare and kindergarten to the primary school setting. There are two main features of this subject: (1) Teaching physical education in the primary school, and (2) Health as an issue in primary schools.

Each of these features is central to a comprehensive approach to health and physical education in the primary school. This subject involves students in practical experiences in teaching PE through tutorials, including exploring a variety of PE models. Lectures and online assessment activities focus on health issues in primary school.

There are three pieces of assessment:

  • Online quizzes running weekly for 8 seeks. These will commence in the second week of classes. 20 per cent of the total mark.
  • Writing a TGfU or dance unit of work (4 lessons). due in the final week of semester. 40 per cent of the total mark.
  • Exam (2 hours) during exam week. 40 per cent of the total mark.
