Time Commitment: Contact Hours: 1.5 hours of practical language classes and a 1.5 hour seminar per week
Total Time Commitment: 3 contact hours/week, 5.5 additional hours/week. Total of 8.5 hours per week.
Prerequisites: 60% or higher in LaTrobe-Spanish Langauge & Culture 1B or approval of the subject coordinator. Special enrolment arrangements apply. Students must contact the Faculty of Arts Office for application forms and further details.

Subject Overview:

In this unit students examine issues in learning European languages and consider factors shaping the learning and approaches to language learning. Using case studies from Italy, Spain and France other issues will be covered including cultural awareness, language policy and identity. Lectures are in English, however students majoring in Spanish attend tutorials in Spanish and complete written work in the Spanish language.
Objectives:
  • be more proficient in distinguishing and handling various language registers in written, aural and oral speech.
Assessment: A 1.5-hour written test 35% (due at the end of semester), written work comprising of 2500 words 50%, oral exam 15%. Students must pass the end of semester written test in order to pass the subject.
