Subject Overview:

Group improvisation; song lyric discussion; working towards performances; psychodynamic group facilitation skills.
Objectives:

On completion of this subject, students should be able to:

  • lead groups of clients in music therapy group improvisations;

  • lead groups of clients in discussion of song lyrics and meaning;

  • lead groups of clients towards performances with therapeutic intent;

  • analyse client's musical and verbal expression using a psychodynamic framework; and

  • respond sensitively and ethically to client groups in a music therapy setting.
Assessment:

Practical test at end of semester (50%); 1500-word assignment due mid-semester (50%).
