Subject Overview: This subject will introduce a framework for understanding and developing leadership in schools, business and the community. Topics will include: Vision and goal-setting; communicating and collaborating; creating productive environments; effective planning and performance; reflection and problem-solving. There will be strong emphasis on the notion of teaching as leadership.
Objectives: On completion of this subject, associates should be able to:
  • Understand the major elements of effective leadership;
  • Relate the concept of leadership to effective teaching;
  • Understand the significance of leadership in producing innovation and change;
  • Have confidence in their own ability to undertake leadership positions as required.
Assessment:

A 1500-word action plan for dealing with a problem within a school setting, due at the end of the initial intensive (75 per cent);

A 500-word reflection on the process of producing the action plan (25 per cent), due one week after the initial intensive.
