Topics include: the purposes of language assessment, models of communicative language ability and their implications for assessment, the design of assessment instruments, assessing speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, self and peer assessment, establishing criteria for the evaluation of assessment instruments, current trends and ethics in language assessment. |

Online forum contributions throughout the semester, (totalling approximately 1,600 words; 20 per cent), Description and evaluation of a second language assessment instrument (2,400 words; 30 per cent). Design of an assessment framework for a specific second language curriculum (4,000 words; 50 per cent). |
