Course Overview:

Melbourne Law School's graduate program in banking and finance law has been designed to provide legal and financial practitioners with a sophisticated understanding of the legal and regulatory framework of the Australian and international financial sector. Many subjects have a practical application and you can choose from subjects focusing on banking (lending, deposit taking, treasury etc.), funds management, payments, superannuation, financial intermediaries, markets or insurance, to ensure you gain the knowledge you need to build your career in this area.
Objectives:

The Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance Law focuses on:

  • Legal issues arising in connection with financial products and services, financial instruments and sophisticated financing techniques
  • How key legal concepts underlying these transactions can be utilised to suit commercial objectives
  • Identifying and resolving legal problems and issues from theoretical and practical perspectives
  • The articulation of knowledge and understanding in oral and written presentations.
Course Structure & Available Subjects:

Students must complete four subjects from the prescribed list. Students who do not have a law degree from a common law jurisdiction or any prior legal studies or experience are also expected to complete the two-day preliminary subject Australian Legal Process and Legal Institutions.
Students may discuss other subject options with the Director of Studies.
