Time Commitment:

Contact Hours: A 2-hour seminar per week
Total Time Commitment: 2 contact hours/week , 8 additional hours/week. Total of 10 hours per week.

Admission to the postgraduate diploma or fourth-year honours in an area of language studies or linguistics and applied linguistics.

Subject Overview:	A program of advanced seminars on a current topic in language and cultural studies and/or linguistics and applied linguistics. The topic studied will vary from year to year depending on the availability of staff. Students will gain an in-depth knowledge of the particular topic under consideration, and will analyse and report on their research. Available topics will be posted during Semestser two of the previous year.
Objectives:	demonstrate in-depth knowledge of a particular cultural or linguistic topic; demonstrate the ability to analyse, and to report on their reading in a manner appropriate to the methodology adopted.
Assessment:	Written work totalling 5000 words 100% (commencing at the beginning of semester and due at the end of the subject).

Notes:	Students cannot enrol in this subject without prior permission from the discipline chair. Students should seek permission to enrol no later than two weeks before the beginning of the semester. Students enrolling to undertake the genre subject in Semester 2 are able to do so without prior permission.
