Subject Overview: Students who complete this subject should be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of a particular topic in Hispanic cultural studies, linguistics or literature, and demonstrate the ability to analyse and to report on their reading in a manner appropriate to the methodology adopted. Available topics will be posted during Semester 2 of the previous year.
Objectives:
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge of a particular topic in Hispanic cultural studies, linguistics or literature;
  • demonstrate the ability to analyse, and to report on their reading in a manner appropriate to the methodology adopted.
Assessment: An essay of 5000 words 100% (commencing at the beginning of semester and due at the end of semester).

Recommended Texts: Each topic will require its own reading list to be compiled in consultation between the supervisor and the student.

Generic Skills:
  • This subject encompasses particular generic skills. Communicating knowledge, intelligibly and economically: through essay and assignment writing, tutorial discussion and class presentations;
  • Written communication: through essay and assignment preparation and writing;
  • Public speaking and confidence in self-expression: through tutorial participation and class presentations;
  • Attention to detail: through close reading and textual analysis, essay preparation and writing, and examination revision;
  • Time management and planning: through managing and organizing workloads for required and recommended reading, essay and assignment completion and revision for examinations.
Notes: Students cannot enrol without prior authorisation from the subject coordinator. Students should seek permission to enrol no later than two weeks before the beginning of semester.
