Time Commitment: Contact Hours: 36 hours mid semester intensive
Total Time Commitment: 36 hours of in class contact, with a total time commitment of 120 hours overall.

Entry to Graduate School of ABP or Bachelor of Architecture or approval of the subject coordinator.

Students who have completed 702444 Building Sustainability or 421670 Building Sustainability are not permitted to undertake this subject.

Subject Overview:

Working from international best practice this subject will teach advanced skills in environmentally friendly integrated design, including design for context and culture. It will provide skills to work in multidisciplinary teams, integrate rating tools effectively, achieve long term high performing buildings while striving for aesthetic excellence.


On completion of the subject students should have developed the ability to:

  • Critically evaluate the integration of sustainable principles in design and construction.
  • Apply a range of approaches to environmental, social and cultural sustainability in design and construction.
Assessment: One take-home written exam (40%), one written assignment of approximately 4,000 words or equivalent (60%).
