Subject Overview:

Building on the broad overview from 615-686 ICT Outsourcing Fundamentals, this subject provides a practical set of principles, tools and techniques for client organizations to follow when managing ICT outsourcing. Topics discussed are as follows:

  • Architect Phase 1: Deciding why, what and how to outsource, and to whom and where
  • Architect Phase 2: Designing a deal, developing a contract scorecard, Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators, Financial Schedule
  • Engage Phase: Choosing supplier/s, game theory, competitive bidding, negotiation, planning/conducting
  • Operate Phase: transition-in, Contract Management (skills, activities, governance), Relationship Management, Disengagement (exit) - types, planning
Upon completion of this subject, students should be able to perform effectively in an ICT contract management role.
Assessment:

Written assignments and project work totaling no more than 6000 words due during the semester (50%); a 2-hour written examination in the examination period (50%).
