Margaret CoadySubject Overview: | A study of a range of ethical issues and child-rearing. Topics will include the nature and limits of parent authority; government regulations and intervention in families; the ethical issues raised by the range of current family relationships, the roles of state, parents and professionals in the care and education of children; surrogate decision making for children; children's and parents' rights, ethical regulation in professions concerned with children; cross-cultural considerations in evaluating child abuse and neglect and ethical questions in research on young children. |
