This subject examines the principles and practice of collection management. Issues examined include the role of the registration department; manual and computer cataloguing procedures; the practical and ethical issues raised by accessioning and deaccessioning policies; the role of codes of ethics in collection management. The subject also addresses the theory and practice of exhibition interpretation and design, including an introduction to catalogue research and publication, exhibition budgeting, public relations and related business skills.
|Assessment:||A 1000 word acquisition report 25% (due during semester), a 1500 interpretative text 25% (due during semester) and 2500 word exhibition proposal 50% (due during examination period).|
