Course Overview:

The postgraduate diploma allows students to undertake a research project in a specialist field of study. Students will gain considerable knowledge in an area of art history and engage in critical assessment of the major theoretical claims of the discipline. The course provides a pathway to higher degree research for students who have not completed a four year BA (Honours) with a research component in art history.

Objectives:

Students who complete the postgraduate diploma should:

  • have the capacity to prepare an original piece of research;
  • gain an in-depth knowledge of theories and methodologies about visual cultures;
  • develop the ability to analyse the critical reception of works of art.
Course Structure & Available Subjects:
  • Thesis 12,000 words
  • 1 compulsory subject
  • 25 points from the Advanced Research seminars in Art History
  • 25 points other elective subjects

NB Students will be required to complete a minimum of 25 points from the Advanced Research in Art History subjects. The remaining 25 points may be chosen from Other Electives or students may opt to choose more than 25 points from the Advanced Research subjects.
Entry Requirements: 1. The Selection Committee will evaluate the applicant's ability to pursue successfully the course using the following criterion -

• an undergraduate degree with a major (100 credit points) in Art History or a cognate discipline with a grade average of at least H2B 70% in the major, or equivalent.

2. The Selection Committee may conduct interviews or tests and may call for referee reports and employer references to elucidate any of the matters referred to above.
