Time Commitment: Contact Hours: 4 hours of language classes per week.

Subject Overview:

This is a post-elementary subject in Chinese. By the end of this subject students should know 750 Chinese characters and should have a good grasp of basic grammatical structures as well as furthering their knowledge of Chinese cultural practices.

Objectives:
  • have a knowledge of 750 Chinese characters.
  • will have good knowledge of basic grammatical structures.
  • be able to conduct a conversation in Chinese on a range of everyday topics.
  • further develop their knowledge of Chinese cultural practices.
  • make use of the diversified knowledge of intercultural communication practices.
Assessment:

A 2-hour written exam 40% (examination period), mid-semester test 10%, a composition test 5% (last week of semester), regular vocabulary tests 5% (ongoing), 10-minute oral test 20% (examination period) and 30-minute listening comprehension test 20% (examination period).

Class attendance is required for this subject; if you do not attend a minimum of 80% of classes without an approved exemption you will not be eligible for a pass in this subject. Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day. In-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked. All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.
