Subject Overview:

The subject introduces students in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning to the skills necessary to conduct rigorous and original research and effectively communicate their research findings in a clear and systematic manner. The subject concentrates on the preliminary stages of thesis writing; selecting and refining research topic, developing appropriate research questions/hypotheses and select and use appropriate research methods.

Objectives:
  • Design an appropriate research program for their Research Project
  • Propose a research topic and survey the relevant literature
  • Demonstrate an understanding of various research approaches and paradigms and methods of data collection and analysis
Assessment:

Minor thesis of 15000 words based on a 5000 word research proposal submitted for 705-461 BUPD Research Project Part 1 (Honours).
