This subject consists of three related areas. Teaching Contemporary Technique explores the potential structures of technique classes and works progressively through the functions and construction of class material and exercises. Contemporary Dance for Children covers the content and teaching strategies for creative and skills training for under 11 years of age. Teaching Observation is based on the recognition and understanding of teaching strategies, content and classroom management techniques.

Progress made completing class tasks plus creating and demonstrating technical exercises (40%); written assignments totalling 2,500 words (40%); teaching observation diary 1,500 words (20%).

This subject is not available as a breadth subject.

On completion of this subject students should have acquired the following skills:

• the ability to communicate orally, kinaesthetically and in writing;

• the ability to identify aesthetic domains;

• the ability to apply theory to practice;
