Subject Overview:

This subject will introduce students to research design in the behavioural sciences and provide the basic statistical tools and concepts for analysing relevant experimental data.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • critically examine research and literature in the hearing-related sciences;
  • understand basic research design and the generation of testable hypotheses;
  • understand basic statistical tests relevant to speech and hearing science and apply these accordingly;
  • undertake a scientific literature search.
Assessment:
  • Written reports on two computer-based practical assignments not exceeding 500 words each.
    These will take place in weeks 6 and 10 (20% each) - 40%
  • One hour written exam at the end of semester - 60%

Hurdle Requirement: Students must pass the written examination in order to pass the subject.
