Subject Overview:

This subject introduces students to the production of live performances by observing professionals and by working on an internal production. It will be delivered via two modules: Professional Development and Production Practice.
Module One:
Students will be shown examples of production processes. The examples can be experienced either by visits to professional companies during a production cycle, or guest speakers, as well as internal seminars.
Module Two:
Students work in a crewing capacity on a production. The module introduces the student to the complexity of the production process and the collaborative nature of the work. These roles can include but are not limited to – mechanist; lighting crew and sound crew.

Learning Outcomes:

This subject enables students to:

• demonstrate an understanding of a range of production practices within the performing arts;
• work efficiently as part of a production team having developed the necessary communication skills (written and oral) and identified the need for continued, independent learning and critical thinking.

Assessment:

Ongoing assessment of students by their lecturer by observation of their work in the role they are undertaking and their attendance at the weekly tutorials. (2,000 words or the equivalent) Due at the end of semester, 50%

1,500 word reflective essay, 20%

The students will also complete a self and peer assessment. (500 words) Due at the end of semester, 20%

Participation 10%
Class attendance is required for this subject; if you do not attend a minimum of 80% of classes without an approved exemption you will not be eligible for a pass in this subject. Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day. All assignment work must be submitted to be eligible for a pass in this subject.
