Minor Thesis (Music Therapy) 1

This subject has the following teaching availabilities in 2016:

Blended Learning Delivery - intensive teaching in 4 day blocks, the first approximately at or before the beginning of semester, and the second approximately mid semester. Dates to be advised.

A total of 240 hours (including non-contact time).

This subject provides students with experience in the development of a minor thesis. Preliminary sections of the thesis will include: An overview of literature pertinent to a thesis topic and the development of a research design, including research questions and method, and (where appropriate) submission of an Ethics Approval form. Tutorials will develop skills in the design and conceptualization of programs and evaluations, as well as development of appropriate writing and research skills.

On completion of this subject, students be able to:

• Devise a research project suitable to the clinical setting that results in qualitative or quantitative results;
• Show a command of research literature and relate this to the current project.

A 2,000 word research design proposal (40%) due approximately mid- semester; (60%) and a review of literature (3,000 words) due at end of semester.

On completion of this subject, students should be able to:

• Compare and contrast research perspectives from objective and reflexive research traditions relevant to music therapy;
• Be able to plan and execute a minor research project in music therapy.
