Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Regular, documented consultations over two semesters with the supervisor(s) as arranged. Meetings should normally occur at least fortnightly and should be at least of half an hour duration.

Subject Overview:

This subject entails an original supervised research project on a topic approved by the Honours coordinator.
Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this subject, students should:

  • have completed supervised research on an advanced topic in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics;
  • have prepared a poster of the results of their research;
  • have completed a thesis of 15,000 words on their research;
  • be able to write a sustained piece of original argumentation;
  • be able to survey an area of knowledge, taking into account all relevant literature on the topic.
Assessment:

A thesis of 15 000 words due at the end of the second semester [100%]

Students are also required to prepare and present a poster of their research at a poster session held at the end of the 6th week of the second semester of enrolment.
