Subject Overview:

The course is intended for Honours students and other Post-Graduate students with an interest in the formation and evolution of basic and ultrabasic magmas and their relationship to magmatic ore deposits.

Learning Outcomes:
  • This subject aims to equip students with discipline-specific knowledge and expertise appropriate for post-graduate research in the field;
  • equip students with discipline-specific knowledge and expertise enabling them to take their place as professional geologists in industry or government organisations;
  • understand key theoretical aspects of petrology;
  • interpret practical examples of magmatic intrusions;
  • understand modelling of melt intrusion.
Assessment:
  • 5 x practicals collectively equivalent to 2,500 words, held across the teaching period (20% each).
Prescribed Texts:

Reading expected to be completed in the pre-teaching period.
