Subject Overview: |
Through a serious of lectures, workshops, tutorials and studio practice, students will be introduced to the basics of writing for the screen, with a focus on both contemporary screen craft and the more timeless nature of storytelling. Students will frequently study in the same classroom as the school's directing students with a view to promoting a broader understanding of filmmaking practices and nurturing creative teams. Students will write a completed original short script and take part in both collaborative and individual script development processes. |

Learning Outcomes: |
On completion of this course students will be able to: -Begin to practice clear, effective writing; -Be able to lead/follow a project through from inception to completion; -Begin to understand a process of researching, drafting and redrafting documents to a polished outcome; -Develop skills in creative collaboration; -Develop an ability to work in a self motivated way. |

1. Storytelling excercises (1600 words) (20%)- due: weeks 3-7; 2. Class presentation (1600 words) (20%)- due: weeks 2-12; 3. Short script (4000 words equivalent) (50%)- due: week 11; 4. Pop quiz/es (1000 words) (10%)- due: weeks 2-12.
