Contemporary Art Practice A

Consolidating experience of producing art in Contemporary Art Practice A, student initiated projects are devised and developed further in consultation with the tutor. Individual guidance and advice will be provided with a view to realising resolved work suitable for the exhibition. A formal group discussion and critical reflection upon the artwork will take place. In consultation with the tutor, students will prepare and install selected works in a group exhibition in one of the School's exhibition venues.

On completion of this subject students will be able to:

• plan and organise their own studio activity and effectively utilise resources appropriate to their developing art practice;
• explore ideas and personal concerns by means of the manipulation and organisation of materials and images;
• demonstrate a developing knowledge of contemporary visual art practice;
• investigate and evaluate the personal relevance of traditional and contemporary models of art practice;
• communicate verbally, their observations of and responses to the products of visual art practice.

1. A folio of developmental and resolved work and supporting documentation (sketch book and/or notebook) equivalent to 2,500 words (80%);

2. Selection, resolution, preparation, installation of exhibition component (20%).

Ongoing feedback is provided to students via individual and group tutorials. A mid-semester review will also take place, taking into account the student's progress against the following criteria: course engagement; work development.
Formal feedback is given to students who are deemed to be at risk; Week 6-8.

Hurdle Requirement: 80% attendance is required for the folio and exhibition component to be considered for assessment purposes.

Incidental Fees will apply for the purpose of accessing the workshop and purchase of materials as relevant.

This subject is not available as a breadth subject.

At the completion of the subject students will be able to:

• Demonstrate capacities for artistic imagination, creativity, transformation and interpretation
