This module is designed to enable students to understand and articulate research as a means to enrich and deepen their own personal processes and artistry. Discussion of acting and actor training, and their relevant forms of performance- and practice-led research, will help develop frameworks of research inquiries and methods for staging practice-based investigations. The study of research will draw on co-requisite subjects (productions, studio work) as well as in-class activities (seminars, lectures, practical applications).

• To encourage the development of the independent and autonomous learner/practitioner.

• To provide an opportunity for the student to demonstrate the capacity to formulate and communicate evidence-based arguments.

• To develop the student’s problem solving abilities.

• To introduce Performance/Practice as Research methodologies.

• To provide an opportunity for the student to critically evaluate professional practice.

Group student presentation on a topic relevant to current actor training and practices. Mid Semester. 50%

Reflective essay (2000 words equivalent). End semester. 50%

A full reading list relevant to the course work will be provided at the commencement of the project with the subject briefing paper.
