Performance Practice 2A

This subject has the following teaching availabilities in 2016:

120 hours

a) Acceptance into the course by talent based audition

b) Successful completion of Level 1 BFA Theatre Practice

The focus of this subject is to learn about rehearsal, staging and production processes in a variety of modes, including period drama, adaptation and mediated performance. Students will then create short, collaborative performances drawing on the skills learnt in Acting and Performance Making 2A.

On completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate the ability to:

• Work constructively as an individual within an ensemble.
• Use materials of theatre as central sources in the making of a theatrical performance.
• Practice using the material elements of theatre within the context of performance
• Take on a variety of production roles as required by the context
• Understand the technical and organisational requirements of a small scale theatrical performance
• Perform in a range of styles and modes of performance.
• Demonstrate the skills of story telling: making offers, advancing meaning, physical and vocal association

Practical Assignment 1 (Mediated performance task) 5-10 minutes (30%).

Practical Assignment 2 (Contemporary adaptation of period material) 10-15 minutes (30%).

Practical Assignment 3 (Create new group performance using period material as stimulus) 20-30 minutes (40%).

Hurdle requirements

Students must attend 80% of all scheduled classes and attempt all elements of assessment to be eligible for a pass in this subject.

This subject is not available as a breadth subject.
