Subject Overview:

The focus of this subject is on ensemble practice. The foundations are laid for the development of the art of acting and the composition of original performance. This subject explores the core principles of performance creation: body, space, action, word, meaning, score, rhythm and repetition through improvisation and task based work. Actors will explore working spontaneously, imaginatively and authentically within a theatrical context.

Learning Outcomes:

This subject enables students to:
• work from self;
• work constructively as an individual within an ensemble;
• use materials of theatre as central sources in the making of a theatrical performance;
• accept responsibility for their own learning.

Assessment:

Practical Studio Class Work 70% (Focusing on achievements against set criteria in areas such as: developing a methodology, transference of skills into performance and professional attitude and commitment).

Practical assessment of assigned tasks in group presentations. 30% End of semester

Hurdle requirements: Students must attend 80% of all scheduled classes and attempt all elements of assessment to be eligible for a pass in this subject.
