Subject Overview:

This subject is designed to provide advanced practice skills in case management and supervision of sexual offenders in a correctional or justice setting. The subject will comprise two modules on:

  • Case management of sexual offenders: Effective Intervention Practices (2 days)
  • Good Lives Model: Theory and Application (3 days)
Learning Outcomes:

This subject will provide knowledge and skills relating to:

  • Effective and informed case management practices designed to reduce the risk of recidivism in sexual offenders;
  • The principles of the Good Lives Model and its application in offender case management;
  • Strengths-based approaches and their value and utility in managing offenders;
  • The link between an offender’s unique set of criminogenic needs and their offending;
  • Tailored intervention planning, based on offenders’ criminogenic needs; and
  • Specific practical and professional tasks associated with their role as a case manager or support worker
Assessment:

Assessment for this subject is in-class group work based on a case study (20%), one two-hour examination comprised of multiple choice and short-essay questions (75%) and individual contributions during class (5%). Assessment will take place on the final day of the subject.

Though participation in the course and completion of assessment students should acquire skills in:
