Subject Overview:

The nature and behaviour, and appropriate repair and conservation, of the materials of historic buildings, including stone; clay products; mortars; plasters and renders; timber; and metals.

Learning Outcomes:

To be able to recognise architectural materials; diagnose deterioration mechanisms; and propose solutions for their repair and conservation.

Assessment:
  • up to two written and illustrated reports totalling 3000 words or equivalent (50%);
  • a two hour written examination (50%) at the end of the assessment period.
