Subject Overview:

This subject introduces graphic skills appropriate to design and building. These skills are taught through a series of constructed and freehand drawing assignments essential to the design thinking process. Graphic skills are developed through tutorials and lectures which are held in the studios and outdoors. Emphasis is given to the development of orthographic and perspective drawing, delineation and representation of form and volume.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the subject students should be able to:

  • Learn to draw and design with confidence
  • Create orthographic and perspective drawings
  • Demonstrate constructed, freehand and digital drawing techniques.
Assessment:

Freehand and constructed drawing exercises held both outdoors and in the studio (100%). Time commitment for each of 10 Weekly Assignments which are each worth 10% of final assessment is approximately 10 hours per week per Assignment.

Assignment 1: Preliminary drawing exercises and final drawing exercise due Week 2 class, 10%

Assignment 2: Preliminary drawing exercises and final drawing exercise due Week 3 class, 10%

Assignment 3: Preliminary drawing exercises and final drawing exercise due Week 4 class, 10%

Assignment 4: Preliminary drawing exercises and final drawing exercise due Week 5 class, 10%

Assignment 5: Preliminary drawing exercises and final drawing exercise due Week 6 class, 10%

Assignment 6: Preliminary drawing exercises and final drawing exercise due Week 7 class, 10%

Assignment 7: Preliminary drawing exercises and final drawing exercise due Week 8 class, 10%

Assignment 8: Preliminary drawing exercises and final drawing exercise due Week 9 class, 10%

Assignment 9: Preliminary drawing exercises and final drawing exercise due Week 10 class, 10%

Assignment 10: Preliminary drawing exercises and final drawing exercise due in Final Folio, 10%

Final Folio containing all work (including preliminary exercises, final drawings and sketchbook) due 2 weeks after final studio session (100%)
