Subject Overview: |
A study of the possible uses of literature within the second language curriculum. These uses range on a continuum from literature as a resource for language development to literature as an object for study.The course will examine what teachers and learners can do with literature in the classroom, the language of literature and appropriate teaching methods, the teaching of poetry, short stories, the novel, drama and film. Student assessment and program evaluation in literature lessons and courses as well as possible areas for research and development are also included. Aspects of literary theory will be considered particularly in relation to their pedagogical implications. |

Attendance at all classes (tutorial/seminars/practical classes/lectures/labs) is obligatory. Failure to attend 80% of classes will normally result in failure in the subject. |
