Subject Overview:

This subject will introduce students to the ethical issues, cultural considerations, policy framework and the economic environment that informs conservation practice.

During the pre-teaching period students are expected to complete the course readings, review the lectures and any other course preparation as outlined on the LMS. The LMS will become available at the commencement of the pre-teaching dates.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this subject students should:

  • have an understanding of the history, context and key issues of the discipline of conservation along with the professional standards required and parameters for sound decision-making
  • be familiar with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) considerations
Assessment:
  • one 1500 word class paper due in Week 2 of Semester 1 (20%)
  • one class presentation 500 words due in assessment period from 2nd of March to the 14 th of March 2015 (20%)
  • one 3000 word report due in Week 5 of Semester 1 (60%)

Hurdle requirement: students must attend a minimum of 75% of workshops/tutorials in order to pass this subject. Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 2% per day; after five days, no late assessment will be accepted. In-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked. All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.
