The DL provides students with the opportunity to gain a Diploma in Spanish language study while completing an undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne. Spanish and Latin American Studies Spanish language subjects are organised in a progressive sequence (of units) from Spanish 1 to 7 through to the Spanish Electives. Students may enter at any point, subject to placement testing and/or prerequisites, and normally progress through the sequence in consecutive order. Accelerated progression and mid-year entry are also possible in special cases with the permission of the course convenor. Mid-year entry is also possible into subjects with even numbers. |

The Diploma consists of a three-year sequence of first-, second- and third-year language study and may add up to one year to the duration of the student’s degree course. See the Diploma course structure for details. Spanish and Latin American Studies A 100-point diploma sequence is available. The sequence is as follows for the three most common entry points:
Students will have their appropriate entry point determined by the Spanish and Latin American Program, based on evidence of prior learning and/or results of a placement test as required. Subject Options: | SPANISH 1 ENTRY POINT:Spanish 1 entry point - Level 1Students completing the Spanish diploma with a Spanish 1 entry point are required to complete the following subjects (25 points). Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: Spanish 1 entry point - Level 2Students completing the Spanish diploma with a Spanish 1 entry point are required to complete the following subjects (37.5 points). Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: Spanish 1 entry point - Level 3Students completing the Spanish diploma with a Spanish 1 entry point are required to complete the following subjects and one elective (37.5 points). They can take up to 1 European Studies/Other elective subject (12.5 points). *Students in the Spanish 5 Entry Point are required to take 5 elective subjects (two at Level 2 and three at Level 3 - 62.5 points). They can take up to 2 European Studies/Other elective subjects (25 points).
