Australian Studies

This major is only available to students who commenced a Bachelor of Arts prior to 2013. Australian Studies provides an examination of contemporary Australian culture, society and institutions in their global context. Principal areas of focus include: migration, ethnicity and marginality; national identity, community and place; politics, histories of poverty and welfare; Arts and creative production; and Indigenous and non-Indigenous relations.

A major in Australian Studies consists of 100 points of study, comprising:

Level 1

• 25 points of level 1 arts subjects from any discipline

Level 2

• 37.5 points chosen from the list below

Level 3

• Australian Studies Capstone subject (12.5 points) and
• A further 25 points of elective subjects chosen from the list below.

A minor sequence in Australian Studies consists of 75 points of study comprising :

Level 1

• 25 points of level 1 arts subjects from any discipline

Level 2

• 25 points of Australian Studies at level 2

Level 3

• 25 points of Australian Studies at level 3

All subjects except the Australian Studies Capstone Subject are available in the minor and as breadth studies.

Level 2

Students completing a major in Australian Studies are required to complete 37.5 points of level 2 from the subjects list below.

Level 3 Capstone

The capstone subject is compulsory for students completing a major in Australian Studies.

Level 3

Students completing a major in Australian Studies are required to complete 25 points of level 3 from the subjects list below.
