This subject is an extension of the practical skills taught in Stage Management Skills 2B. It includes detailed analysis of the work of current practising professionals in the areas of Company and Production Management within different theatrical genres. It concentrates on the relationships necessary to start and build a career and the various pathways available Locally, Nationally and Internationally.

This subject will give students insights into the workings of different company structures within the entertainment industry that they cannot experience in the classroom. Students should exercise critical thinking as to how they might present themselves in the ‘marketplace’ both initially and as their experience grows into the future. To encourage students to refine their industry focus and articulate in a written document, their ability to research at a professional level.

Completed questionnaire (1000 words or equivalent). Mid Semester. 30%

Essay (2000 words or equivalent). Mid Semester. 30%

10 minute Oral Presentation (1000 words or equivalent). End of teaching block. 30%

Participation
Focusing on achievements against set criteria in areas such as: engagement, professional attitude and commitment. 10%

Hurdle requirements
Students must attend 80% of all scheduled classes and attempt all elements of assessment to be eligible for a pass in this subject.

At the end of this subject the students should be able to:

• Demonstrate the ability to plan and implement different options for creating a professional pathway.

• Exhibit extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of their discipline including relevant professional knowledge, skills, discipline and ethics as they relate to a practising visual/performing artist.

• Show confidence in the application of this inquiry based learning by using both practical and interpersonal skills.

• Understand and demonstrate the skills required to construct and deliver a professional presentation of their research.
