Time Commitment: | Contact Hours: On Campus Delivery - One 2-hour tutorial per week at the University, plus up to 2 days per week in a facility approved by the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music throughout the semester and over the semester break. A minimum of 20 days is required. Blended learning delivery - approximately 2 days per week in a facility approved by the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music throughout semester. 18 hours as part of intensive teaching in 4 day blocks, the first approximately at or before the beginning of semester, and the second approximately mid semester. One-hour tutorial with clinical supervisor each week as part of clinical placement. Fortnightly discussion forums accessed online (6 hours). Total Time Commitment: A total of 120 hours (including non-contact time). |

Subject Overview: |
This subject provides students with clinical experience of music therapy. Placements will be in hospital or community settings under the guidance of a registered music therapist. The placement will include a graded introduction to the assessment of client needs, the development of program plans and the provision of music therapy interventions. Students will participate in the provision of music therapy interventions, taking responsibility for sessions where appropriate, and evaluating and measuring benefit of the intervention. Tutorials will develop therapeutic skills for practice and foster the development of an individual therapeutic style based that can be adapted for various client groups. |

On Campus Students: A written assignment of 3,000 words, comprising either a case study or a group project (60%) due at the end of semester; clinical training assessment (30%) completed by supervisor at the end of semester; class presentation (10%) given during the semester. Blended Learning Students: A written assignment of 3,000 words, comprising either an individual or group case study (60%) due at the end of semester and submitted on-line; clinical training assessment (30%) completed by supervisor at the end of semester; 20 minute class presentation (10%) given during the second intensive teaching block in mid semester. |
