Ensemble A

This subject is not offered in 2014.

It is University policy to take all reasonable steps to minimise the impact of disability upon academic study, and reasonable adjustments will be made to enhance a student's participation in the University's programs. Students who feel their disability will impact on meeting the requirements of this course are encouraged to discuss this matter with a Faculty Student Adviser and the Disability Liaison Unit.

Intrumental/Vocal students:

Participation in ensembles and performances as approved by the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and designed in consultation with subject coordinator/s.

Conducting students:

Participation in ensembles and performance, as a conductor, as approved by the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and designed in consultation with the subject co-ordinator.

Intstrumental/Vocal students:

On completion of this subject students should:

• Have developed the ability to perform sympathetically with other members of the group;
• Be aware of the importance of individual preparation;
• Become sensitive to the requirements of working in groups, large and small, particularly with regard to regular and punctual attendance;
• Have an understanding of the range of repertory available for the ensemble group of which the student is a member.

Conducting students:

On completion of this subject, students should have developed:

• The ability to conduct sympathetically and lead an ensemble;
• Skills in the preparation of an ensemble for performance;
• Skills in working with ensembles, particularly in regard to discilpine, attendance, organisation of rehearsal schedules, concerts, personnel and equipment.

Students who are enrolled in Ensemble subjects as part of their Master of Music by Research (Music Performance) are required to submit details of their ensemble activities on or before the Monday of week 3 of the semester in which they are planning their ensemble enrolment. Music Performance students who enrol in the Ensemble elective are expected to participate in an Ensemble which rehearses and performs at a Masters level. Ensembles must be approved first by the Head of your instrument group and then the MCM Director. You are required to submit a confirmation of rehearsals, repertoire and performances declaration at the end of May (Semester 1) or October (Semester 2).

Assessment is on the basis of satisfactory attendance and participation (30%); and rehearsal and performance of a program of major work as approved by the co-ordinator/s (70%). Assessment is on a pass/fail basis.

This subject is not available as a breadth subject.
