Prerequisites:

Admission to the second 100 points of the Master of Art Curatorship, Master of Cinema Management, Master of Arts & Cultural Management (Moving Image), or Master of Creative Writing, Publishing and Editing. Students who have already completed an internship subject must obtain the approval of the course coordinator in order to enrol in this subject.

Non Allowed Subjects:

Students who have previously completed 107-547 Art Curatorship Internship, 760-435 Internship 1, or 107-544 Work Experience Placement are not eligible to enrol in this subject.

Subject Overview:

Students enrolled in this subject will be assisted to find a placement in a professional working environment. They will work under the guidance of a senior staff member, with additional support from the subject co-ordinator. The placement will enable students to apply in a practical environment skills developed in their other coursework units. Students will thus gain direct exposure to professional practice in their chosen field. The internship may be undertaken as a practicum at the students' workplace if appropriate.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion students will have:

  • acquired an extensive knowledge of the conditions, cultures and practices of a range of workplaces;
  • gained practical vocational experience in an industry setting;
  • applied professional concepts, frameworks and techniques in a vocational setting;
  • gained significant insight into the complexities of professional decision making and management; and
  • developed a capacity to critically evaluate their experience and to share their findings through written and oral reports.
Assessment:

A reflective journal assignment 1500 words 30% (due during the semester), and written work, or equivalent, to 3000 words 70% (due at the end of the internship).

Upon successful completion students will have:

  • advanced their communication skills through contribution to seminar discussions and presentations, and participation in workplace-based discussions and reporting sessions;

  • increased their capacity for effective teamwork through group discussions and collaboration with the workplace mentor and other staff; and
  • developed their time management and planning skills through managing subject workload requirements and work placement commitments.
