This subject is designed to explore in depth significant literary and/or visual and written texts, and may include the study of particular genres, authors, critical methodologies, literary and cultural schools or movements, cultural and/or literary developments in a particular century. Topics will vary according to current research and teaching interests of academic staff and various approaches and methodologies will be proposed.

• learn to apply contemporary literary theory to specific texts: to evaluate the importance of specific Italian elements in the texts studied, and to be able to discuss them in Italian.
• be able to place Italian fictional texts in their historical and cultural contexts.

A 15-minute oral presentation subsequently written up 30% (due during semester), and two essays of 1,500 words and 2,000 totalling 3,500 words 35% each (the first due during semester, and the second at the end of semester).

This subject has the following hurdle requirements:

• Regular participation in tutorials is required with a minimum of 75% attendance.
• All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.

Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day and in-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked.
