Students enrolled in this subject will complete a 12 day internship with an external organisation in the commercial property development, investment, valuation, management and consultancy field. Students will be supervised by the Subject Coordinator in collaboration with a designated party at the host organisation. They will work across a range of tasks relevant to the organisation's objectives, and will develop and complete a specific project in discussion with the host organisation and the Subject Coordinator.

The Internship experience will enable students to extend and apply the knowledge acquired through the Master of Property coursework subjects, will provide students with a valuable professional experience, and will extend their professional networks. The internship will facilitate the application of knowledge acquired through coursework to a professional workplace.

Consistent with the overarching objectives of the Master or Property, students will:

• Learn to work effectively in a professional environment;
• Apply and extend knowledge obtained through prior completion of Master of Property subjects in a professional setting, including the application of knowledge to a property-related project;
• Learn to work autonomously on a range of tasks, and to bring their understanding of the property discipline to a designated project;
• Develop an understanding of project management skills in an industry setting;
• Effectively communicate results of the project to the host organisation and to an academic audience.

Written assessment equivalent to 5,000 words comprised of the following tasks:

• A 1,000 word project proposal and work plan, developed in consultation with the host organisation and the Subject Coordinator, due at internship commencement (15%);
• Project Report 3,500 words for the host organisation, to be assessed by the Subject Coordinator in consultation with the host organization, due within two weeks of the conclusion of the internship (75%);
• A 500 word journal that documents and reflects on the Internship Experience, to be assessed by the Subject Coordinator, due within two weeks of the conclusion of the internship (10%).

This subject is not available as a breadth subject.

Students will acquire a specific set of skills related to completing a research/problem solving task in a professional environment. Specific skills include:

• Advanced communication skills (written and verbal) appropriate to professional contexts;
• Ability to apply broad theoretical and cross-disciplinary knowledge about heritage to a specific case-study or project;
• Project management skills, including scoping projects, developing timelines and meeting deadlines;
• Research and critical thinking as applied to a professional context;
• Interpersonal skills, including the capacity to work effectively in a professional setting, and with a professional team.
